Nuvation’s mad scientists

15 December 2012

SAN JOSE, Calif.–Nuvation is an electronics design-services company here, run by a bunch of guys who are, well, wonderfully insane.

They have day jobs, but as the sun arcs below the horizon, the mad scientists in them all come out. They come out to build things like Discofish and take it all the way to Burning Man.

They come out to build E Rex, which turns out to be just not a cool electric car that goes zero to 60 in the blink of an eye, but serves as a showcase for their engineering talents. (E Rex battery management system pictured nearby).

Shortly after we spent time inside Nuvation checking out their amazing robotic air hockey machine, we hopped in E Rex for a ride and got CEO Michael Worry’s description about the vehicle’s design and engineering motivation. The vehicle was no idle concept: it was the result of two full years of R&D.
